A Bohemian Bedroom Designed for Where They Are Now

Moody. Grounded. Grown.

There’s a specific kind of shift that happens when a woman realizes her bedroom no longer reflects who she’s become. It still functions. It still looks “fine.” But it doesn’t feel aligned. That was the turning point for this client. She and her partner were ready for a space that felt intentional, layered, and unmistakably adult; not trendy, not transitional, not pieced together over time. Grown.

We began with depth.

A moody, saturated green limewash wall became the heartbes with the light. In the morning, it feels grounded and serene. At nat of the room. Limewash isn’t flat — it moves, it breathes, it changeight, it wraps the space in a cocoon-like richness that makes the entire room feel immersive. The color choice wasn’t random. Green connects us to nature. It stabilizes. It signals calm confidence. And when you saturate it? It becomes powerful without ever feeling loud.

Against that layered green backdrop, we introduced warmth through a terracotta upholstered bed, complete with underbed storage. Because grown spaces don’t just look good. They work. The terracotta tone brings earthiness and quiet boldness, playing beautifully against the green while keeping the palette grounded in nature. And the hidden storage? Essential. Extra linens, seasonal items, the practical realities of real life, all concealed so the room can breathe. Clutter steals calm. We weren’t letting that happen here.

Hiding the Off-Center Window (Without Calling Attention to It)

One of the architectural challenges was an off-center window that disrupted the balance of the primary wall. Instead of pretending it wasn’t there, we reframed the entire narrative. A strategic canopy feature spans wider than the window itself, visually correcting the imbalance and creating symmetry where it didn’t exist. It draws the eye upward, softens the structure, and makes the placement feel intentional. Layered beneath it are creamy window panels: rich, dramatic, unapologetic. In daylight they glow; in the evening they deepen into a soft, enveloping backdrop. They nestle the terracotta bed and bring a bit of contrast that keeps the space from ever feeling predictable.

To ensure the richness didn’t tip into heaviness, we balanced it with clean Scandinavian-inspired side tables and dressers: light woods, simple lines, restrained silhouettes. This contrast is what makes the room feel editorial rather than busy. Bohemian doesn’t have to mean chaotic. Here, it means curated. Textural. Intentional. The clean forms allow the color story to shine without competition.

And because this is an adult retreat, we carved out a seating area that feels just as considered as the bed. Two chic, comfortable chairs anchor a corner of the room, each with hidden ottomans tucked seamlessly underneath. When pulled out, the space transforms into a lounge-worthy space for reading, late-night conversations, or slow Sunday mornings. When tucked away, it maintains its tailored, polished appearance. Versatility without visual noise. That’s the sweet spot.

The Heart of the Design Objective

But beyond the materials and layout, the real objective was emotional. This client wanted a bedroom that reflected where she and her partner are in life: established, expressive, confident. A space that supports intimacy and rest. A room that feels immersive enough to disconnect from the world, yet warm enough to feel personal.

When we revealed the finished design, her reaction said everything. She told me it felt like a boutique hotel designed exclusively for them; only better, because it was rooted in their personality and daily life. The room no longer felt like a placeholder. It felt like arrival.

Jazmyn is *the best* at taking a half baked, imaginary vision, and bringing it to life. I gave her a blank slate, a few random thoughts, and she pulled together my primary bedroom in a way that is so cozy, elevated and functional, it puts the rest of my house to shame. She is also very communicative, and lets you know every step of the process what you can expect. Cannot recommend enough!

This project is proof that a bedroom can be more than functional. It can be grounding. It can be expressive. It can be deeply grown. And when it’s done right, it doesn’t just change how a space looks — it changes how you feel inside it.
